Let's begin with the room style. Are you going for a traditional or contemporary look, or maybe a mix of both, more transitional? This is an important first step in developing your decorating plan.

Vanity

The next step is to choose the vanity. The vanity will be the basis for building venetian mirrors discount your decor around. Here are a few options to consider:

Custom Vanity

You can have a custom cabinet maker build a piece unique to your needs and size, finish, etc. This is ideal for almost everyone, although this is the most expensive alternative.

Pre-fabricated Vanity

Today's trend is to use vanity pieces style furniture. These come prefabricated with hand carved moldings and solid stone tops, under mounted ceramic sinks, and are usually pre-drilled for a faucet. Mirrors

Vanity size will determine mirror size. The mirror should not extend beyond the outside edge of the vanity. If you have a double sink vanity and want a contemporary look, an unframed large single mirror that extends from the outer edge of the vanity will keep it simple. The best way to buy a frameless mirror is venetian mirrors for sale to have one custom cut from a glass company so that you can get the maximum size your space will allow. For a traditional look, use two single oval mirrors hung over each bowl.

To add character, consider choosing two different mirrors to hang over the individual bowls - this is a great way to express your individuality based on which side of the vanity you use.

Built by Timber Trails Development Company and designed by Julie Howard (previously featured here – a must-see post!, here, here, here & here), this townhouse was designed really for empty-nesters downsizing and wanting to maintain really high-end finishes. Here, the interior designer shares some insights:

“The Oxford at Timber Trails is a large ranch style townhome located in Western Springs, a suburb about 20 miles outside of Chicago. This townhouse was designed for someone who wants the ease of a smaller space without having to compromise on the quality and details of the finishes. The dramatic yet neutral color scheme made the perfect backdrop for multiple photo shoots and even a television commercial. The sophisticated and chic black, gold, and white elevate this dramatic home. Kitchen

Because this townhouse has another unit attached, the kitchen of this home does not have a window in the prep area. We used floating shelves over the kitchen sink to create an open and airy feeling where one usually has a window. If we would have carried the cabinets all around the boxy shaped room it would have felt very closed up and boring. The shelves add so much interest and depth to the kitchen.

I however, like to save that stuff for closed cabinets and use the floating shelves as an area to style like a bookcase. When designing this townhouse, it started to take on a black, white, and gold color scheme and I thought the Greek key would be perfect. “The mudroom of this house is actually a hallway that connects the bedrooms, the garage, and the laundry room. There is not a closed off area where mess can accumulate. We needed to make sure the mudroom had more than just hooks and a bench. That would get very messy to walk past every day. We had custom built-ins made that hide all the mess. We painted it black so that it felt like a large piece of furniture in a white hallway. The board and batten on the walls gives an architectural feel but also helps to protect the walls in a high traffic area”. – Julie Howard

4 Interiors That Show How To Use Red And Green In A Non-Clashing Way

Muted shades of red and green root the modern interior design schemes of these four city apartments. Green and red might not be an obvious choice, as at the brightest end of the spectrum the two hues loudly clash. However, in the humble muted tones employed by these interior palettes, the red and green combination is one that melds and flows, and is deliciously warming. Plenty of crisp white and mellow grey areas keep the colour story looking current and airy, along with modern furniture and on trend materials. Home number four gives a final shake up of the look, with fluorescent red accents that divert attention away from their sage canvas, and compete with exciting beats of blue.

This 45 square metre city apartment, located in Minsk, Belarus, accepts colour via its furniture. A red small side table stands boldly against a grey modern sofa. Fitted cabinets line an entire wall in solid red, and green kitchen base cabinets peep from the corner of the compact layout.

More of the green accent is pulled through via long window drapes, and a bedroom portiere. The TV wall unit is simplified with white handle free cabinets.

The bedroom area of the studio apartment is painted a deep lush green to define it from the attached white living room, and to achieve a feeling of intimacy within the open plan.

Light wood flooring covers the living room, but is replaced by hard-wearing monochrome tile in the home entryway.

The oversized shade of a Formakami JH4 pendant light hovers above and green and black dining set behind the living room sofa.

Black frames sharply trim the windows.

A low entryway bench tucks beneath a line of wall mounted closets.

The hallway closets are the master wardrobe in the studio apartment.

Curved cabinets fronts create a curtained look across the front of the green kitchen run. The chimney extractor unit echoes the rippled theme.

Above the modern bathroom vanity, a simple wall sconce is offset by a large round mirror. The mirror and vanity bring the red accent into the bathroom design, whilst the shower enclosure is green from top to toe.

Bathroom accessories are white to clean and crisp the look.

The equal balance of red and green is sustained in our second home interior. Ribbed wall panels shape green living room walls, whilst the upper portion of the room remains white.

The brighter ceiling space helps the room to feel open and airy. A white media unit mirrors the white ceiling stripe lower down the wall. Colour coordinated artwork is displayed here, along with an orb table lamp. The bird figurine next to it is an Eames bird.

A mature indoor plant brings in a flash of brighter greenery against the muted sage backdrop.

A set of nesting coffee tables add a flash of natural timber to the lounge. A glass vase holds a dried flower arrangement.

Strawberry red modern dining chairs encircle a white round dining table in the corner of the living room, alongside a navy blue feature wall and green gypsum panelling.

This two story studio apartment in the center of St. Petersburg was designed for a girl who lives her life between two cities, with the cultural capital being home for approximately half of the year. The interior was designed to embody the atmosphere of the city through its rich dark palette–inspired by rain, romance and art. A red tufted sofa with bolsters at the arms brings a sense of sophistication.

The small living room dining room combo has a high ceiling, which allows the dark decor palette the space it requires so as not to feel oppressive.

A green area rug pulls the elements of the lounge area together, and holds them separate from the neighbouring dining space and kitchen.

The small kitchen stands beneath a mezzanine bedroom with a library.

A swing arm wall lamp serves both the sofa and the kitchen with added illumination. Decorative vases top a small side table between the two zones.

Red Gubi Beetle style chairs spice up the dark dining room.

The round dining table is a black Tulip style table. Its circular outline is complemented by spherical glass vases, and its colour inspires an unusual two-tone paint effect on the art frames above it.

Plush green upholstery wraps the entryway bench, which becomes a vanity seat with the addition of a mirror behind it.

The frameless mirror is cut to fit the wall from edge to edge to increase the sense of space and light.

A shelf floats against the glass.

Ladders give access to the bedroom mezzanine.

Up on top, a red headboard colours the sleep space.

Our last apartment interior carries an easy, breezy vibe from more vivid colour accents. A fluorescent red floor lamp chimes with an equally bright statement cabinet.

Bold blue accent chairs bring in extra buzz.

The striped sofa has its own sense of personality in the room.

Indoor plants add layers of texture. A feathery parlour palm and an aqua accent chair create a tropical looking vignette, and an aloe vera plant spikes out of the kitchen island countertop.

A Formakami JH3 pendant lights the kitchen.

The green dining room is missing a statement light, and instead sits quietly in the corner…

… Although, an IKEA PS 2017 table lamp sits nearby to give a cosy glow.

The bedroom scheme is rather more neutral than the quirkily coloured lounge.

Classy Interior Designs With Slick Dark Accent Pieces

A sense of calm washes through these three classy cream interiors with basey undertones of black, grey and brown. Each interior gains texture from multiple types of rich wood tone, veined marble and layered textiles. Designer: Metra Studio Visualizer: Metra Studio Tour number one takes us around a 133 square metre home located in Kiev, Ukraine. We enter the main living room via the kitchen on the left, and are met by a large L-shaped modern sofa by the window. Black scatter cushions bring deeper notes to the light grey couch upholstery, and match with a black marble coffee table in front.

A feature wall streaks the end of the room with neutral shades, like a ripple of desert sand dunes. Tropical plants create an oasis. In the adjacent dining room, a circular pendant light reflects the round dining tabletop beneath. A teak lazy susan adds another layer to the visual of stacked circles. Brown dining chairs match the deep tone of the centrepiece.

Wood planks cross the floor of the lounge and dining area but are replaced by light tile at the entryway and in the kitchen.

A wall of black storage darkens the wall by the entry door, struck through with a chrome stripe. A huge round mirror reflects a low hanging pendant light. Two brown poufs provide places to sit whilst kicking off outdoor shoes.

The mirror has a black marble shelf attached as a place to set down keys and phones.

A dark one wall kitchen with island has a deep stained wood ceiling volume to complete and exaggerate the shadowy ensemble.

In contrast to the dark kitchen units, a light wood dining table is amalgamated into the island.

An understated linear suspension lamp illuminates the tabletop.

The master bedroom is a soothing space, which has an open plan ensuite attached and a small lounge area with two comfortable bedroom chairs. Mature indoor plants feather the corner of the room, standing at different heights to follow the outline of the bed and headboard.

The central kitchen island is composed of white gloss cabinets that complement the white marble backsplash. A black dining table runs directly off the kitchen island, teamed with six olive swivel chairs. A huge pot of indoor plants accessorise the room.

In the master, a pair of gold bedroom pendant lights dangle in front of a copper accent wall.

A bedroom chair sits in front of slatted doors that section off the ensuite bathroom.

The sliding slatted door panels allow natural light from the bedroom window to pass through into the bathroom.

Beautiful Homes of Instagram: Connecticut Beach House

Hello my wonderful friends! How are you today? It’s great to be back with this new “Beautiful Homes of Instagram” post especially because I am featuring such a talented and kind woman! Marcie, from @designsixtyfive, is a busy mom of two little boys, and, together with her husband, she managed to renovate and decorate this gorgeous Connecticut beach house.

I can’s stress enough for you to follow her on Instagram because she’s one of those rare people you meet and instantly feel connected to. Here, Marcie shares more details about her home:

“When we began planning for our home renovation, Home Bunch was one of my go-to sources for inspiration, so to be sharing our own home on this platform now is such an honor! I first started Design Sixty Five as a way to document our renovation for posterity, not thinking anyone would actually be interested in following along with the progress. A year later, I am truly amazed at how it taken on a life of its own and has become such a fulfilling creative outlet. It brings me so much joy to exchange ideas and inspiration with others and I couldn’t be happier to share our renovation experience here with you!”

Beautiful Homes of Instagram: Connecticut Beach House

“We bought this 1920’s colonial in 2012 (before having children) when it was only 1,300 square feet with 3 small bedrooms and 1 bathroom. After growing our family to include 2 kids and 2 dogs, we felt it was time for us to either expand or move. We fell in love with the location of this home, which is within walking distance of downtown as well as the beach, so we decided to renovate in order to make this home work for our family in the long term.”

Expanding your Dreams

“As part of the renovation, we essentially gutted the existing house, demolished an old detached garage and 3-season sunroom, and added on an attached garage, mudroom, kitchen, master suite and junior suite. While it might have been easier to demolish the entire house and start from scratch, we loved the original house and wanted to stay true to its history, charm and character. We replaced the windows, siding and roof and added architectural details to create interest and dimension while honoring the style of the original house. The newly renovated house is approximately 2,400 square feet and has 5 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms.”

“When winter rolls around, this becomes the hardest working little corner of our house! A few years ago, we added a small powder room to this corner, which allowed us to create a “mini-mudroom” on this wall using board & batten and some simple wall hooks.”

Timeless Coastal Vibes

“On the interior, we opened up walls and added windows wherever possible to create an open floorpan that is flooded with natural light. Given the home’s location, we wanted to achieve a subtle coastal aesthetic that is classic, yet fresh and organic. The decor is simple with timeless elements of natural wood and textures, plenty of white, live greenery, and hints of blue.”

Small Lot Modern Farmhouse

There’s no question that modern farmhouse is the most popular home style and this type of home is being built from coast to coast, even reaching and changing many quaint streets of beach towns in California. Built by Graystone Custom Builders, Inc. (they created and provided all of the interior details associated with the home, including cabinetry, wall treatment, flooring, etc), interior design by Blackband Design (they worked their magic with furniture, textiles and window coverings) and architecture by Teale Architecture, this home offers all “modern farmhouse must-haves”, such as shiplap (and lots of it!), white oak plank hardwood floors, black windows, board and batten siding, painted brick, reclaimed barn wood, barn doors, barn lights and comfy decor that, although beautiful, is far from being stuffy.

Here, the interior designer gives more details about this white modern farmhouse:

“A local family with three college-age daughters built their dream home in Corona del Mar, and we had the pleasure of furnishing it! The build is a classic Graystone Custom Builders; clean, coastal style with splashes of fun tiles and finishes. We continued this balance of aesthetics bringing in staples such as neutral linen sofas and reclaimed furnishings while incorporating eclectic patterns and earthy-tone accents. The master bedroom is a serene retreat with a slipcovered bed and bathroom full of amenities, and the three daughters’ rooms with attached bathrooms each reflect their individual personalities. With the limitations of a tight lot in the renowned flower streets, we maximized the space for entertaining keeping an open floor plan on the main living level and including multiple seating arrangements that span the length of the rooftop deck (there’s even an elevator to get you there!). The home opens to indoor/outdoor living on the front patio and back courtyard with sliding doors and furnishings that flow seamlessly to expand entertaining and living spaces once again.” – Katie from Blackband Design.

It’s easy to see why I am featuring this gorgeous home today, right? The architectural details are impressive and they weren’t compromised because of a narrow lot. The exterior features over grouted stone walls and wood fence.

According to the builder, they get involved in the interior design details with their clients early on. They love adding texture to ceilings and walls throughout the home. For this dining room, they chose a reclaimed wood ceiling detail which complimented the wine wall designed by the homeowner. Their design team selected the custom Green blown glass jug cluster lighting.

We also introduced a reclaimed wood band on the custom range hood to compliment the ceiling detail in the adjacent dining room. Beautiful Homes of Instagram: How to Build your own Home

Beautiful Homes of Instagram is truly one of my favorite type of posts I publish on Home Bunch. It’s certainly not the easiest, but it’s a favorite and I hope it is for you too. I feel very proud to be featuring so many talented homeowners and be able to not only see their homes but especially know their story and the process of designing their space.

I am very happy to have Kristin of @kristin_kgdesigns on the blog today and I really think you will feel inspired by her beautiful home, especially if you dream of building your own home but feel intimated by this big task. Here, the homeowner shares more details and some encouragement:

Hi everyone! Luciane asked me to write up my “story”… so it all began back in the late 1970’s when little Kristin came into the world… kidding. No one needs to hear that! Let’s talk about my house building story, shall we?

That story starts about 3.5 years ago. We were living in our dream house we had built ourselves and had worked so hard on. It was on 5 wooded acres and we loved it. Then my oldest started kindergarten. We loved our house and property but we were not in the best area and certainly not a good school district. I thought we could stick it out for another few years but after one day of volunteering in his class I came home and told my husband we had to move. He nearly killed me…but he eventually acquiesced and we decided to start looking in the “good” school district. Lucky for us one of the top districts in the state was only a 20 minute move.

We sold our dream house and started looking for a house in the area we wanted to be in. Turns out we totally couldn’t afford the area we wanted to be in. So that meant we’d have to build again to get the kind of house and property we wanted our kids to grow up in. We found a gorgeous 5 acre property that had a 1962 ranch house that had never been updated and had an unfinished basement. We bought that property and did a boundary line adjustment so that we had two separate properties. We lived in the ranch house while designing and permitting our new house on our own. We literally designed every inch of this new house ourselves. While doing this (and both working full time), we gutted and completely remodeled the ranch house.

Permitting took us 15 months to complete and we broke ground in August of 2017. We moved in 10 months later. We were the general contractor and my husband built most of the house while I was his laborer. We both worked full time during all of this so we would get home every night and walk out to the new house to work until bedtime. For over two years we said no to almost every social invitation we received. We worked on this labor of love every day. And we couldn’t be happier. We love this house and can’t wait to raise our kids here.

“I wanted to give you one of the best cost saving tips if you’re building or remodeling a kitchen. Our fridge looks and functions like an expensive unit but it’s really just two separate, simple units with a trim piece attached. Ours is by Frigidaire and we love it! Saved us a bunch of money but we still have the look and function of something much more expensive.”
